After listening more, I didn’t feel right about holding out on you guys with my other 25 Hours a Day tracks since they kick such copious amounts of ass. Here are two more.

Alex Gopher - Carmilla (25 Hours a Day remix)
Charlotte Gainsbourg - The Operation (25 Hours a Day remix)

I also finally realized why the new Kid Sister track sounded so familiar — she’s singing over the old r&b groove that U-Tern posted and I trolled back in ye olde BlogTroll #1

Kid Sister - Family Reunion feat. David Banner
Jerome Prister - Say You’ll Be

we're number 1

I think I had seen a remix of a Codebreaker track before or something because the name was familiar. I’ve really been digging this track–a little slower, almost funky.

Codebreaker - Fire feat. Kathy Diamond

I hadn’t heard of Grand Popo Football Club before, but they’re french and featured on DiscoDelicious, so you know they’re solid. Here is their big hit from 2001.

Grand Popo Football Club - Men are not Nice Guys

I was a little underwhelmed by Pocket Symphony, and I got it at the same time as like 100 gb of other music, so I haven’t thought about Air in a minute. Talkie Walkie was awesome though, and Mark Ronson adds his usual funky drum kit to the whistling.

Air - Alpha Beta Gaga (Mark Ronson instrumental mix)

I can’t get enough Shinichi Osawa, but this is a lot lighter than his usual electro bangers. He makes Popular Computer’s pop track even prettier.

Popular Computer - Lost & Found (Shinichi Osawa remix)

I (along with the rest of the world) have grown to really like the smooth synth sounds of Anoraak. His version of the Romantics hit is cool. Wow, that was an insightful review…

Anoraak - Talking in Your Sleep (Romantics cover)

Once I heard one remix by 25 Hours a Day, I gobbled up as many others as I could. They are also from France (who isn’t these days?), and made me remember how much I love this guitar-driven disco punk sound. Here is just a taste of how awesome they are.

Phoenix - Long Distance Call (25 Hours a Day remix)
Cassius - See Me Now (25 Hours a Day remix)

Le Castle Vania has been taking the electro world by storm, but some of his stuff has honestly been a little too harsh for me. I had heard this Pumpkins track in a mix this summer though, and almost dropped my macbook when I saw it on the toof. This rocks.

Smashing Pumpkins - Zero (Le Castle Vania re-edit)

We’ll keep going with the bangers. Don Rimini has been blowing up lately with his rave sounds. This one isn’t as stabby as his Bust a Move remix, more arpeggiated. I love when Jay-Z calls out the Oasis tools. Hey, Gallagher brothers: you are not the Beatles. Get over yourselves.

Jay-Z - Jockin’ Jay-Z (Don Rimini remix)

Adam Tensta has been remixed a bunch in the past, must of which I’ve liked. Here is the latest with a heavy-duty electro riddim.

Adam Tensta - Dopeboy feat. Eboi (Al Azif remix)

soulwax

Oh man, I have been waiting for blog eons to post this Kids remix, but wanted to wait until I saw it elsewhere first to keep my hookup out of hot water. So good, it actually lives up to the hype! I really need to see these guys live, especially after seeing the snippets from their forthcoming tour dvd, Part of the Weekend Never Dies.

MGMT - Kids (Soulwax remix)

Ok, now before you go judging this next one, give it a listen. Despite how kickass Designer Drugs are, I skipped over it until I saw it popping up everywhere. Made quite the ass out of umption, too!

Mariah Carey - I’ll Be Loving U Long Time (Designer Drugs remix)

I don’t listen to that much indie rock, but I do like the Kaiser Chiefs. So when I saw their new song remixed by blog darlings Cut Copy, I was excited. A nice little house groove once the piano kicks in — more up-tempo than most of the Aussies’ remix work.

Kaiser Chiefs - Never Miss a Beat (Cut Copy remix)

Public Enemy’s recent album almost went totally under my radar, and I’m glad I caught this track. Really liked the horns sample they used. This remix sounds nothing like the original, of course, but NeOn’s electro banger version is just my style.

Public Enemy - Harder than You Think (NeOn remix)

Eric Prydz and the rest of the Sweetish House Mafia are royalty in the genre, and his Pjanoo has been quite the anthem lately. Here DJ Excel adds some bmore flavor for a great twist. Side note: I bet I love spreadsheets far more than him — I should have totally snagged that DJ name.

Excel vs. Eric Prydz - Excelarator’s Pjanoo

The Chubby Fingers track that they put out a while back totally won me over to these SF house DJs. Their stuff is so soulful, always make me think of a 70s roller rink with the disco ball and everything. Smooooooth.

Chubby Fingers - Here’s to You

Was a great week for french house in general, as I also found the latest track by The Juan Maclean. Who didn’t love Happy House?? Nothing but great stuff from that whole DFA label. Keep up the good work, James Murphy.

The Juan MacLean - Find a Way

And I found this collision of french house heavy-hitters The Phantom’s Revenge and the wunderkind, Louis La Roche. My hips are swaying a little just thinking about it.

The Phantom’s Revenge - Absolute Ego Riot (Louis La Roche remix)

I think I’ve posted a Lykke Li track three weeks in a row now… Here is yet another great effort, this time by Black Kids. I’m still a little chapped that I missed them at Coachella.

Lykke Li - I’m Good I’m Gone (Black Kids remix)

The latest Modular explosion, Ladyhawke, is another lady that I can’t seem to not come across in the blogoverse. Let’s round out the week with something a little softer.

Teenager - Alone Again feat. Ladyhawke

Justice

Remember this song? It always find its way into my 90’s mega-mixes since it’s groovy albeit slightly melancholy at the same time. Kleerup maintains the original bpm but adds a nice beat and a Moogish Popcorn bassline.

Cardigans - Erase Rewind (Kleerup remix)

A) I love Jupiter. B) I’ve been hearing good things about the new indie band, Metronomy, perhaps my new fave since Mystery Jets. This song has been getting remixed like crazy, but A + B = Cool.

Metronomy - Heartbreaker (Jupiter remix)

These next couple gems come courtesy of DiscoDelicious, whose solid offerings of disco, disco-fied indie and French house are making it one of my favorite music blogs. Most of its artists are new to me, as is the case with Discorockets from Spain, and Greenskeepers from Chicago. Alas, Running to You gets caught off at the end, but both are gloriously groovy.

Discorockets - Running to You
Greenskeepers - The Color Pink

I’m usually so obsessed with remixes that Kitsune’s remix competition for Drugs in my Body a while back made me blow right past the actual artist, Thieves Like Us. Dumb! Particularly given how great this new track off their latest EP is.

Thieves Like Us - Your Heart Feels

Lykke Li has been gaining momentum since I first ran across a Sumo remix a while back. I like her voice, and I really like Punks Jump Up — their disco punk sound really perked my interest in that sub-genre, or whatever you call it. See above regarding A + B.

Lykke Li - Breaking It Up (Punks Jump Up remix)

Switch certainly needs no introduction. Have loved his productions in the past, including the epic rework of Hideaway, but I don’t remember them being as funky and housey as this. Very G-Unit style; reminds of me really early DJ Dan…

Switch - Just Bounce 2 This

I thiiiiink Cryptic played this track for me a while back on an SF trip, so I gotta throw him a shout-out now that’s made its way into the blogoverse and these pages. I would have given it a listen just for Sandy Vee’s clever name alone, but it’s a banger and the Immigrant Song sample is awesome.

Sandy Vee - Bleep

Perhaps this next track struck a chord after hearing U-Tern’s latest hip-house podcast… Higher tempo to the flow, with a minimal house groove behind it.

Copyright - In Da Club [Shake Shit Up] (Jimpster remix)

Expensive timepieces seem to be a motif with grime hits these days — Wiley’s big hit was about wearing his rolex, now Skepta is sweeping it… Electro-house gods Vandalism add their signature over-driven synth flavor.

Skepta - Rolex Sweep (Vandalism remix)

a-trak

I hate to admit it, but all the remixing efforts after Wow by my boys, MSTRKRFT were starting to sound the same. I still get excited to see anything new though, and this track rocks. Reminds me more of the first couple times I heard their remix of Woman by Wolfmother.

John Legend & Andre 3000 - Green Light (MSTRKRFT remix)

This next track is fun. I’ve seen his name around the blogosphere before, but this is the first listen I’ve given to Kap10kurt. Obviously, the original track was quite alluring on its own! Cool vocoder, and this synthier version stays true to riffs and flow of the classic.

Kap10kurt vs. Original Hampster - Burning Down the Haus

After remaining nearly religiously focused on electro beats for so long, I’ve been warming quite a bit these days to the bassy club tracks. They are a nice bridge for EDM heads like me to cater to more hip hop-oriented party-goers if need be, and I was sold after hearing and lovingFake Blood’s remix of Beeper. Here are a couple minimally vocal remixes of hip hop legends by club giant Sinden and Audiostalkers out of Sweden.

EPMD - Run It (Sinden remix)

Dead Prez - Hell Yeah (Audiostalkers remix)

Ravey stuff has been another sound that I haven’t really pursued, likely because of my hatred for hard house. However, I’m coming around. Good tracks by Larry Tee and Don Rimini have showed me the light. I like the child vocals on this one…

Pnau - Baby (Sam La More remix)

Not to be left out, here a couple sweet house tracks, too. Duke Dumont lays down a funky beat with good breaks and some ravey riffs.

Duke Dumont - Feltham (the Borstal Beat)

Shazam needs no introduction by now, but I felt compelled to show him some love on here after months of neglect. Very nice French/disco sound, groovy piano melodies — me likey.

The Aston Shuffle - Stomp Yo Shoes (Shazam remix)

Speaking of groooovy tracks, I was frankly a little surprised to see that Al-P put together this amazingly disco remix of the DFA 1979 hit under his (unbeknownst to me) pre-MSTRKRFT production alias, Girls Are Short. Groovy disco is kind of the opposite of MSTRKRFT.

Death from Above 1979 - Romantic Rights (Girls Are Short remix)

And to round out the post, here are a couple mellow tracks. I love the different names that get tossed around to capture this sound/genre — dreamwave, robot disco or to quote Disco Dust, “dreamy 80s disco-flavoured new wave”. Weird Tapes are new to me, but I got my hands on a Ssion track back towards the beginning of the year and used it in a podcast. Enjoy.

Weird Tapes - The Heavens

Ssion - Credit in the Straight World

seattle

Took a few months to sit around, pack up and settle in, but we’re jacked in again. Coming at you live from the greater metropolitan Seattle area. Granted I was distracted, but I honestly wasn’t coming across as many amazing tracks either. However, I was excited to see electro gods, The Villains, breath life back into this NYPC hit. Good way to kick things off after the break.

New Young Pony Club - The Bomb (Villains Xplosive remix

I came across a Snowden remix a while back and really enjoyed the emo vocals. The Glamour’s fuzzy electro bassline and repeat effects strike a perfect balance of fat beats and sympathetic angst.

Snowden - Between the Rent (The Glamour remix)

I had known of The Faint for a while as another cool dance-rock band like The Rapture or LCD, but hadn’t quite pursued them enough. This new single is exactly what I like about the style though–simple, catchy riffs and a four-four beat.

The Faint - The Geeks Were Right

Came across some Jupiter tracks from Disco Dust right before the posting hiatus and so they slipped into the void. Thankfully, I found this new track while getting caught up and I had to show some love. Great stuff.

Jupiter - Chip

This track takes a minute to get going, but once the bassline kicks in, you’ll be happy you waited. I threw on the James Murphy Fabriclive cd a couple times on the trek up here, and this has a similar vibe to those groovy, old disco gems.

Wolf & Cub - This Mess (Serge Santiago Dub)

Have also been listening to plenty of Cut Copy, Presets and other Modular rockers lately, and been way into the heartfelt synthesizers. Probably since I was a little sad about moving away… This track doesn’t need any lyrics to set the mood.

Roman Salzger - Alpha Centauri

Ahh, and now for some delicious house music. The keyboards on this one remind me of Steve Miller Band classics like Fly Like an Eagle…

Acos CoolKas - Discotheque

I have several Phantom’s Revenge tracks and remixes, and they are all banging French house. I especially like the extra disco-flavored ones like this.

The Phantom’s Revenge - French Cheese Funk (Tzarr edit)

I was leery of her American Boy hit from earlier this summer since it was borderline Top 40, but I really grew to like it. Treasure Fingers has had some mainstream remixes in the past like Fergie et al that have rocked, and this is yet another fun track.

Estelle - No Substitute Love (Treasure Fingers remix)

I’ve been trying to really vamp up the rhymes arsenal so that I can spin for more than just other hipsters, eclectics and similar-minded folks. This was another good find from the Sunday offerings–kind of an Africa Bambaata electro vibe. Thug life.

Poison Clan - Shake Whatcha Momma Gave Ya (Lunyp Miami Booty Shaking Remix)

More old school vinyl rips from U-Tern. This one clocks in at almost 140 bpm, much faster than most of his slower, groovy posts. Has a cool 80s electro vibe–funny to think that “electro” means something totally different now…

Bobby Nunn - Sexy Sassy

I first heard We are Scientists a few years ago on roadtrips in the Matrix. This remix sounds almost nothing like the stuff I’ve heard, but it is very cool emo electro.

We are Scientists - Chick Lit (Danger TV remix)

I had posted a remix of this Van She track by the man himself a few BTs ago, but I like this new take by the hotter than hot Yuksek even more. Here it is, as well as another banging remix as well. All his tracks seem to incorporate a huge build followed by an electro explosion–very cool shit.

Van She - Strangers (Yuksek remix)

Mika - Lollipop (Yuksek remix)

I think I still prefer the Them Jeans blend of this Kid Sister hit better, but this new re-work by Tepr certainly gives it a run for its money. Almost has an 80s power pop vibe.

Kid Sister - Pro Nails (Tepr remix)

GRUM is simply on fire right now. Dude’s productions all rock hard. Take that fury and add some Le Castle Vania, and damn.

GRUM - Go Back (Le Castle Vania remix)

As I’ve spent more and more and more time over the past year following this new wave of electro/blog house music that is coming out, Kitsune has grown to become one of my favorite labels. While it is certainly one great among many others, it seems to pick out all my favorite elements of the current melting pot of sounds. Case in point: Autokratz out of London.

Autrokratz - Last Show

I hadn’t heard of Fardoche before, but this track’s randomness is great. Not club material, but great mixtape potential!

Fardoche - Disco Double Date

I was pissed that I missed these guys at Coachella this year, and was excited to see this track get posted recently since it isn’t that new. Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip almost fell off my radar… Every line of this song is so TRUE! Cracks me up.

Dan Le Sac vs. Scroobius Pip - Thou Shalt Always Kill

Have been reading about Tommie Sunshine a lot over on GWTP, and while I don’t listen to that much of his music, I really respect the guy. In a scene so dominated by new, new, new; he really seems to play what the fuck he wants and do his own thing–which includes a lot of older stuff. Take this sweet remix of the Stones classic, for example.

The Rolling Stones - Sympathy for the Devil (Tommie Sunshine’s Peak-Hour
Lucifer remix)

First off, we have an original track from Chubby Fingers with a bassline that I hope remains stuck in my head for another week. Great disco house–will definitely be included in my french house podcast if/when I ever get around to it…

Chubby Fingers - Into the Night

And speaking of basslines, I was frankly a little surprised to hear this groovy Cut Copy remix coming from Boys Noize. I know and love his harder stuff, so nice to enjoy the lighter side as well.

Cut Copy - Lights & Music (Boys Noize Happy Birthday remix)

I know Felix Da Housecat is a huge name in house music and started pushing things in the electro direction early on, but he isn’t really on my radar for whatever reason. But Shinichi Osawa sure is, with his awesome remixes of Pogo and Star Guitar in the past. More good stuff here.

Felix Da Housecat - Radio (Shinichi Osawa remix)

If I’m going to “play to a crowd”, I’d much rather do it to indie rock than worthless Top 40 shit. I hadn’t heard of indie darlings Matt & Kim before finding a Flossy D remix, but here is another great remix by Radioclit, whose name I have been seeing more and more. Simplistic, like the drum fills.

Matt & Kim - No More Long Years (Radioclit remix)

Lifelike has been yet another Parisian that I have been following for a while now (well, me and everyone else). This track has quite the extended intro, but eventually builds to another pretty house track with warm synths ala my boy Falke.

DK7 - Fashion Feelings (Lifelike remix)

This synth house backdrop works really well with the classic Busta track. Probably because this is from back when rap was legit, and he can really flow. This one’s for you, The Steve. I’ve got my ears especially tuned for these tracks now.

Busta Rhymes - Dangerous (Night Facilities remix)

Villains are my electro sweet spot. Hard but not too hard (as much as I dig that too) and just plain fun. Here they work on a new one by up-and-coming hip hop artist Shwayze from Malibu. I don’t hear “representing the 310″ very often–hell yeah! I sure am going to miss you, 310.

Shwayze - Buzzin’ (Villains remix)

(a) I used to hear this track all the time in the 2 Many DJs sets that we used to listen to religously, and (b) I gotta represent the latest efforts by Chew Fu. Like the guitar riff addition.

Missy Elliot - Lick Shots (Chew Fu H=H fix)

Credit to Busy G for these next couple. My boy has been throwing lots of good stuff my way, and great to have more ears out there. This remix of the Midfield General hit downplays the siren clips; but the vocals are my favorite part anyway, and I like the added distortion.

Midfield General - Disco Sirens (Push Music Electro Rub)

Doesn’t have to be new to be good. Either Busy P or Kavinsky dropped this at Coachella, and I stumbled on a post with several SebastiAn tracks recently–so this one jumped out at me.

SebastiAn - Motor

chemical brothers

Back once again with the renegade master… A lot of classic tracks getting remixed this past week, so let’s start with one of my personal faves by Midnight Juggernauts. I’m all about funky basslines, and this new take really emphasizes it.

Midnight Juggernauts - Shadows (Knightlife remix)

As much as I love pretty much all of the Van She Tech remixes, Van She’s alter ego always cranks out bpms that are well beyond this guy’s utilitarian promised land of 130. That said, this one isn’t. And it’s just as good. Techy with a sentimental break in the middle.

I am Finn - I Love You (Van She Tech remix)

I have had a soft spot for Annie ever since I bought her DJ-Kicks album from Amoeba based solely on respect for K7!. Then I started to recognize her tracks around and here is a remix of the newest single. Good synth backdrop for her whispery vocals.

Annie - I Know Ur Girlfriend Hates Me (Get Shakes remix)

No shock that Mr. Falke is back in yet another BlogTroll. All his tracks are pretty, but I especially love the slap bass on this one. Ladyhawke’s vocals certainly don’t hurt either!

Ladyhawke - Back of the Van (Fred Falke Ultimate Beverly mix)

(a) Cazals are a great new addition to the Kitsune label, and (b) Moulinex is the fucking man. Put those two together and hot damn, don’t stand in my way to the dancefloor.

Cazals - Somebody, Somewhere (Moulinex remix)

Granted, it’s a little slower than the aforementioned banger, but this new Lismore is good stuff. Like a more electronic NYPC. I don’t know about you, but I certainly want more.

Lisemore - More

This was posted many weeks ago elsewhere, but I dropped this Chew Fu fix during last weekend’s gig and it had the speakers rumbling. Brooklyn! Worthy of spreading the good word again.

Jackson 5 - I Want You Back (Chew Fu Big Room fix)

It’s a shame that this electro remix evolves into such a gnarly banger because now I can’t as easily work it into sets for my indie buddies. But this Mike Genius remix is…genius. Will be keeping this in the arsenal mos def.

The Cars - Let the Good Times Roll (Mike Genius remix)

GRUM continues to crank out the electro bangers. I’m going to try to hunt down the original now too, since Tronik Youth has been doing a lot of choice productions himself.

Tronik Youth - Laugh Cry Live Die (GRUM remix)

The Toof scored this interesting remix from newcomer PUBLIC. I am a whore for remixes, and this track is why. Have been headbanging just as much to the heavy synth riffs as I did the original. Classic Toof though–the track is cut off.

Metallica - I Disappear (PUBLIC Goth remix)

animal collective

Ok, please bear with me on the posting dearth. Had to take care of this little thing in the desert, and frankly the blog harvests haven’t yielded much lately. I’ll pass on the Lil’ Wayne remixes, thank you very much… So we’re back, albeit with a slightly truncated offering.

Since it really has been too long since posting new tracks (or a new podcast for that matter, blargh…), here are a couple different twists on Daft Punk classics. The first of which is an interesting banger edit by B. Rich–who also did a wicked remix of Prince’s 1999 for those who remember from FHBD; followed by a sweet indie cover of Digital Love by Wonky Pop stars.

Daft Punk - Too Long (B. Rich remix feat. Nate Dogg)
Wonky Popstars - Digital Love (daft punk cover)

Not to be left out, here is a great new Justice concoction–shallow party vocals layered over a chopped up DVNO instrumental.

Justice - DVNO (Officially Unofficial Transformer remix)

Representing some new shit from the boys over at Brooklyn Zoo, too. Very funky, almost French house joint from ESTAW. My FTP account seems to be acting up right now, but hop over to their sight to catch a new Chew Fu track featuring wonky Michael Jackson lyrics, too. There is no such thing as too much MJ!

ESTAW & J-Cast - Break It Down

This one came on my radar courtesy of G-Unit–another sweet Ting Tings remix. Not quite as timeless as the Calvin Harris track, but those are big shoes to fill. Less indie, more straight up house. All good.

The Ting Tings - That’s Not My Name (Tom Neville remix)

I know the last thing the blogosphere needs is more Chromeo remixes, but Laidback Luke is one of my favorite house producers right now. I had begun to skip over Fancy Footwork remixes in my trolling, but this reminds me why I like it in the first place.

Chromeo - Fancy Footwork (Laidback Luke remix)

I had been hearing this track all over from MSTRKRFT to Sandra Collins sets, and I finally figured out what it was. I know, I know–I’m way behind. Crookers are blowing up right now; helping Italy to almost keep up with France and Germany in the electro scene. Not for those with musicogenic epilepsy!

The Chemical Brothers - Salmon Dance (Crookers Wow remix)
