Took a few months to sit around, pack up and settle in, but we’re jacked in again. Coming at you live from the greater metropolitan Seattle area. Granted I was distracted, but I honestly wasn’t coming across as many amazing tracks either. However, I was excited to see electro gods, The Villains, breath life back into this NYPC hit. Good way to kick things off after the break.
New Young Pony Club - The Bomb (Villains Xplosive remix
I came across a Snowden remix a while back and really enjoyed the emo vocals. The Glamour’s fuzzy electro bassline and repeat effects strike a perfect balance of fat beats and sympathetic angst.
Snowden - Between the Rent (The Glamour remix)
I had known of The Faint for a while as another cool dance-rock band like The Rapture or LCD, but hadn’t quite pursued them enough. This new single is exactly what I like about the style though–simple, catchy riffs and a four-four beat.
The Faint - The Geeks Were Right
Came across some Jupiter tracks from Disco Dust right before the posting hiatus and so they slipped into the void. Thankfully, I found this new track while getting caught up and I had to show some love. Great stuff.
This track takes a minute to get going, but once the bassline kicks in, you’ll be happy you waited. I threw on the James Murphy Fabriclive cd a couple times on the trek up here, and this has a similar vibe to those groovy, old disco gems.
Wolf & Cub - This Mess (Serge Santiago Dub)
Have also been listening to plenty of Cut Copy, Presets and other Modular rockers lately, and been way into the heartfelt synthesizers. Probably since I was a little sad about moving away… This track doesn’t need any lyrics to set the mood.
Roman Salzger - Alpha Centauri
Ahh, and now for some delicious house music. The keyboards on this one remind me of Steve Miller Band classics like Fly Like an Eagle…
I have several Phantom’s Revenge tracks and remixes, and they are all banging French house. I especially like the extra disco-flavored ones like this.
The Phantom’s Revenge - French Cheese Funk (Tzarr edit)
I was leery of her American Boy hit from earlier this summer since it was borderline Top 40, but I really grew to like it. Treasure Fingers has had some mainstream remixes in the past like Fergie et al that have rocked, and this is yet another fun track.
Estelle - No Substitute Love (Treasure Fingers remix)
I’ve been trying to really vamp up the rhymes arsenal so that I can spin for more than just other hipsters, eclectics and similar-minded folks. This was another good find from the Sunday offerings–kind of an Africa Bambaata electro vibe. Thug life.
Poison Clan - Shake Whatcha Momma Gave Ya (Lunyp Miami Booty Shaking Remix)
