MSTRKRFT

I have had the biggest man-crush on MSTRKRFT for so long now, and I’m finally seeing them for the first time on Friday at the Henry Fonda theater. I can’t wait!

It has been a few years since The Looks came out, and I am really excited to hear some stuff off their upcoming sophomore album. In the meantime, JFK and AL-P have been spitting out more awesome remixes than I can keep track of. Here are a few.

Chromeo - Tenderoni (MSTRKRFT remix)
Death from Above 1979 - Little Girl (MSTRKRFT remix)
Kylie Minogue - Wow (MSTRKRFT remix)
Metric - Monster Hospital (MSTRKRFT remix)
MSTRKRFT - Street Justice (MSTRKRFT edit)
Panthers - Thank Me with Your Hands (MSTRKRFT remix)
Services - Element of Danger (MSTRKRFT remix)
Wolfmother - Woman (MSTRKRFT remix)

Here’s a track from Anoraak, who is new to me. Kinda mellow with 80s overtones.

Anoraak - NERD (Never Ending Romance Disaster)

Lionel Flairs, who has played bass for Alex Gopher in the past, has a new, appropriately titled solo gig going, and here is the latest from Flairs. A recognizable bass guitar under electro zips and beeps is a perfect combo of analog and digital music for OoC.

Flairs - Trucker’s Delight

Here are a couple tracks from Revolte–yet another bangin’ electro group out of France. Their original stuff sounds pretty Ed Banger’esque and I thought their re-work of one of my favorite Daft songs added something to it.

Revolte - TAKK
Daft Punk - Voyager (Revolte remix)

Headman has done remixes of Chromeo, Franz Ferdinand and The Gossip in the past, and really rocks the “disco punk” sound. Here is a new original production, from Munich with love.

Headman - Running into Time

A couple remixes here by The Glass, who did the Shitake Mushroom remix that I play all the time. More indie dance party gems, to be sure.

Photo Atlas - Handshake Heart Attack (The Glass remix)
Neurotic Drum Band - We’re Gonna Rock New York (The Glass remix)

Can’t get enough Hot Pink Delorean’s synthy grooves, and here is the latest sax-enfused jam.

Hot Pink Delorean - Miami Snatch

I know all you hipsters are on Hot Chip’s nuts, so here is a pretty sweet disco remix that I came across…

Hot Chip - Hold On (Floorman’s Disco Freak remix)

Found a couple sweet remixes by The Twelves of NYPC and others in the past, and here is their take on the new Kylie single. I checked out the video for the original, and damn she is still looking foxy.

Kylie Minogue - Two Hearts (The Twelves remix)

New Fischerspooner single. No further intro required. Love those guys.

Fischerspooner - The Best Revenge

I’ve heard some good Nightmoves remixes off Kitsune compilations and random other places, and they are working the magic again on the upcoming Roisin Murphy release. Funky bassline and ghostly vocals.

Roisin Murphy - You Know Me Better (Nightmoves remix)

And for some icing on top of this week’s catch, here is a mix that Ed Banger put together for Mixmag to celebrate five years of kicking ass.

Well, I said I wasn’t going to make this mix a podcast, but after listening several times, I really like it. Especially that Daft to Human League transition. Quite pleased with myself on that one. Plus, I always drag ass on setting the gear back up after a gig, and haven’t mixed anything for a week…

It’s a bit longer than usual, and has a very clear progression as the pace picks up and the synths kick in over the course of the mix. Be sure to click over to the TC Tracks page to download any songs that you find especially groovy…

Inside Pyramid

Well, the first week of getting around to posting my findings turned out to be a great one. Quite a few great tracks, and the latest Remix Sunday hasn’t even been posted yet.

Discodust has been posting shit by Moulinex for a while, and I have been getting all of it. Synth factor of 10. Here is his remix of the new Cut Copy single:

Cut Copy - Lights and Music (Moulinex remix)

I hadn’t heard of these guys before, but here are a couple remixes by Sumo, another groovy disco sound out of Sweden. I hadn’t heard the Feist original song–I guess I’m not as indie as I thought.

Feist - Inside & Out (Sumo re-edit)
Lykke Li - I’m Good I’m Done (Sumo edit)

I don’t know why I don’t get around to snatching up all of the old school gold that U-Tern is posting, but here is an example. Reminds me of my favorite LCD Soundsystem lyric from Losing My Edge about “borrowed nostalgia for the unremembered 80s”. Guilty as charged, Mr. Murphy.

Jerome Prister - Say You’ll Be

I found a couple solid Dead Disco tracks in the past, and here is the new single from their former singer in a new solo venture called Little Boots. Produced by Joe Goddard of Hot Chip, too. BPMs are a little low for the dancefloor, but I like her voice.

Little Boots - Stuck on Repeat

I’m all about the remixes/covers, and here is a great one by the UK indie band The Loose Cannons doing their take on the Janet Jackson hit. Wouldn’t call it a “timeless” song, but this put a smile on my face.

The Loose Cannons - What Have You Done For Me Lately?

I first heard The Black Ghosts a while back, and was stoked to start hearing Any Way You Choose to Give It played on Sirious last week. I how love incestuous dance music is these days, as bands make bangin’ tracks as well as make other tracks even more bangin’.

The Replicants - User (The Black Ghosts remix)

Ooh ooh, arguably the most exciting part of the post. I guess this little number got leaked in a blog comment by a “tb” from “daftalive”, and the blog detectives put two and four together. Hopefully the speculation is correct, because this track just radiates the same glow as Stardust to me. Check out the sweet screenshot of the Tron suits from the grammy’s at Palms Out Sounds, too.

Thomas Bangalter - Love

Calvin Harris is my fucking boy. The man can do no wrong, and here is his latest remix. Has anyone else noticed that he looks exactly like Cilian Murphy?

The Ting Tings - Great DJ (Calvin Harris remix)

Records

I’ve decided on a good direction for the Tracks element of the blog, over which I had been deliberating for months. Can I just post anything? Is there anything to worry about?? Well, it’s all promotional to spread the gospel of fat beats. Very well intentioned. You can now download any and all of the individual tracks from each podcast on the TC Tracks page. I made this an additional step because I would encourage peeps to listen to the mixes first, and then head over to the download page to get more of the songs that jumped out at them.

Another couple new features will be in place soon to get more music info out as well. One is a calendar page (still under construction–I find simple Wordpress plugins to be not so simple) which lists who all is playing around town, including upcoming Out of Controller gigs.

The other most informative yet most time-consuming element will be my attempt to post about sweet New Beats as I come across them in the blogosphere. A certain purveyor of zip files motivated me in this direction, and it hit me that not all of my friends think to troll the same blogs as I do, so re-posting items won’t be simply mindless regurgitation. Maybe a weekly findings update or something…

So pretty soon the Dance Party won’t ever stop. Shake well and buy often.

I have been listening to some disco edits lately, so I was in a more disco-oriented mode for this mix. I like to think that there is already a strong disco element in my sound niche, so I was not surprised when the set turned out similar to prior ones, albeit with higher-pitched male vocals. Should have thrown some Scissor Sisters in there… Still plenty of the guitars and distorted synths that you love.

Tracklisting:

Pacific! - Runaway to Elsewhere (Breakbot remix)
Waldorf - You’re My Disco
Xavier - Give Me the Night (ATOC remix)

The Scandals - My Life Nightlife

Alright, party people. I re-recorded an excerpt of the Five Headed Birthday set so that everyone could relive the magic. The first 14 tracks from the “Main Event” playlist are included. Big thanks to Gabe for lighting the fire under me to start using Garageband to make the podcasts a little more official. Notice the artwork that follows along with the track info now! Hell yeah. I’ll get this uploaded to iTunes soon, too. Then new mixes will be downloaded automatically, and I will be launched into the elite world of the Superstar DJ. haha

I opted to not record any witty banter over the tracks. Mainly because the tracks speak for themselves, but also because I have a cold right now and I’m quite nasally. Eventually I’d like to have some intros to the mixes to give context, but it has felt kinda silly when I’ve recorded snippets in the past. Still not quite as cool as U-Tern…

Lemme know if any of you Out of Controller regulars would be interested in the iTunes podcast though. It’d give me more motivation to get around to that development.
